Urban Design and Cultural Heritage

The City of Vaughan is a collection of places that weave together within a larger landscape and city framework. The experience of these places, how they function, how they connect, and the anticipation of future change, guides the development of Urban Design and Cultural Heritage plans as well as our review of development applications and public infrastructure projects.

Our primary role is to improve the quality and experience of life in the city through:

  • architectural design excellence

  • public art

  • public space

  • streets

  • cycling, walking and transit

  • wayfinding

  • heritage properties and cultural landscapes

  • the integration of infrastructure into the city fabric

  • our connection with the natural heritage network

  • the provision of ecosystem services

Together, these elements contribute to a vibrant, healthy and prosperous city.
