Sports Village Park
A new place for recreation and play is coming to Vaughan
Located at 2600 Rutherford Rd., the park spans across 9.12 hectares (approximately 22 acres), offering something for everyone – whether you’re looking to get active or simply enjoy the outdoors.
From a modern playground and shaded seating areas to new, scenic pathways and renewed bocce courts, the park is being thoughtfully improved for both active recreation and relaxed community moments. As part of The Sports Village’s ongoing transformation, these new facilities will seamlessly connect to existing amenities, including a junior baseball diamond, a fully lit senior diamond and beach volleyball courts.

- The City of Vaughan completed a needs assessment study for the park in July and August 2023 to better understand how community members use the park, how they would like to use it in the future and what amenities they felt were missing from it. Answer
Before a park can be designed and developed, Vaughan Council needs to approve the scope of work during the City’s annual budgeting process. To inform this ask, City staff complete a needs assessment study that includes:
- an inventory and analysis of current site conditions, community demographics and area needs based on standards set in the 2018 Active Together Master Plan.
- community input on the park’s current design, use and desired new amenities.
Using this information, staff develop high-level cost estimates. If the budget is approved by Council, the City can proceed with park design and construction.

Answer
The operation of the Sports Village complex and programming offered are not included in this study, including the main building, all parking lots, outdoor volleyball area, skating trail and patio grounds.
The area in scope for this project and survey, includes the open greenspace, senior baseball diamond and junior baseball diamond.
