Edgeley Pond and Park
Edgeley Pond and Park is the largest open space, City-owned piece of land in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) and is located at the northeast corner of Highway 7 and Jane Street.
As the VMC’s first residential neighbourhood, Edgeley Pond and Park will become the heart of the community and a signature amenity for the new downtown.
The vision is to build a sustainable open space at the centre of the VMC that will function as a hybrid of vital stormwater management infrastructure and create an innovative public space design. In order to unlock future development potential, retrofitting of the pond is required which will also provide water quality and flood control, and optimize ecological function.
The key objectives of this important City project are to:
- improve stormwater management and stream corridor functional design
- improve ecological function and provide functional natural habitats
- generate spaces for active and passive recreation
- showcase design innovation
- plan for strategic phasing and implementation
- enable further development of the downtown
- deliver a first-of-its kind destination for Vaughan and York Region
The Consulting Team
The City of Vaughan has retained the award-winning team of DTAH and WSP to deliver the detailed design for the project.
The Process/Technical Advisory Committee involvement
Design began in October 2016 with completion anticipated for spring 2018.
The timeline is based on six key goals:
- Goal 1 – Consultation and outreach (December 2016)
- Goal 2 – Design principles and vision (February 2017)
- Goal 3 – Conceptual design options (May 2017)
- Goal 4 – Schematic design (October 2017)
- Goal 5 – Detailed design (December 2017)
- Goal 6 - Construction documents (July 2018)
