Robert Stitt Vaughan Civic Hero Award

Robert Stitt was recognized with the Ward 5 Civic Hero Award for his commitment to improving the quality of life in his neighbourhood and his dedication to historical preservation in the City of Vaughan.

Mr. Stitt has lived in the City of Vaughan for more than 26 years. In that time, he has become a leading voice for preserving Vaughan's architectural heritage, particularly in the community of Old Thornhill Village. As well as working with local residents to preserve the City's historical buildings, Mr. Stitt has collaborated with City officials and Vaughan Council on numerous occasions to address emerging issues in Thornhill and throughout the City.

 

Mr. Stitt has held a variety of positions with the Society for the Preservation of Historic Thornhill, an organization founded in 1974 to preserve 19th-century and early 20th-century sites in Thornhill. In addition to co-chairing the group's annual Thornhill Village Festival, he has also taken his passion for preserving local architecture to Heritage Vaughan, where he served as Vice-Chair.​
