Mr. Goodwin has lived in Thornhill since 1953. He came to Canada from the U.S. in 1941 and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After serving overseas in Bomber Command, he decided to settle in Canada. In 1961, he became a Canadian citizen and served as School Board Trustee for more than five years before serving as a Town of Vaughan Councillor from 1974-78.

In recent years, he has appeared before Council on many occasions delivering deputations. Transportation is one of Mr. Goodwin's passions and he is an advocate of good transportation planning.

"Terry Goodwin is not only the conscience of Thornhill, but a font of knowledge of our history and a mentor for anyone interested in taking a role in the community," said Ward 5 Councillor Alan Shefman, who nominated Mr. Goodwin for the award.
