Since 2007, the City of Vaughan has conducted citizen surveys to gather input from residents on quality of life, delivery of City services, value for tax dollars, community engagement and communications, among other things. This is an important questionnaire, as the results from this survey will help ensure the City continues to offer a range of programs and services to meet the needs of the growing community. The data contributes to measuring the impact of City services, service delivery improvement and future planning initiatives.

The most recent survey was conducted in 2024, and is typically conducted every two years by a third-party agency. View the results of the 2024 Citizen Survey (PDF).

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer

The Citizen Survey is used to gather input from residents on service delivery and operations, quality of life, financial sustainability, and public information and engagement. The City of Vaughan values the feedback and opinions of its residents, and that data contributes to measuring the impact of City services, service delivery improvements and future planning initiatives.

Answer

The City conducts citizen surveys to understand the evolving needs and desires of the growing community. By maintaining a consistent pulse on Vaughan’s inevitable shifts and developments, the City can continue improving and delivering service excellence.

Conducting citizen surveys is also an effective way to examine the City’s performance in comparison to other municipalities and see how Vaughan’s service offerings and delivery measures up to similar cities.

Answer

A third-party agency randomly selects 20,000 Vaughan households to receive an invitation in the mail to complete the survey. Each invitation includes a link and unique access code, ensuring residents can only participate in the survey once. A 1-800 number is provided for those who preferred to complete the survey by phone or required an alternate format. The mail-to-online methodology is a growing best practice that produces better response rates and offers all households an equal chance of inclusion in the research.

Answer

Residents who do not receive a mailed invitation could complete a separate open-link version of the survey.

Answer

The City created two versions of the survey to ensure we gather statistically sound data, while also providing an opportunity for all residents to participate.

The survey accessed through the mailed invitation is designed to reflect a statistically accurate representation of Vaughan residents among the respondents. To achieve this, 20,000 households are randomly selected to receive an invitation in the mail to complete the 2024 Citizen Survey.

The online open-link survey is not designed to be statistically accurate, but does allow all residents to voluntarily voice their opinions about quality of life, satisfaction with services and issues facing the city.

While the results of the two surveys are kept separate for statistical purposes, all results are analyzed and published on this page.

Answer

The Citizen Survey is typically conducted every two years by a third-party agency. The 2024 survey was administered by Ipsos. By leveraging a market research company, the City can collect data with a high degree of statistical confidence, meaning the results are an accurate representation of the Vaughan population.
