Municipal Energy Plan
The City of Vaughan is updating the 2016 Municipal Energy Plan through the Municipal Energy Plan Revision. A Municipal Energy Plan is a strategic planning document and action framework that outlines how a community can increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit economic risks associated with transitioning to a low-carbon community.
The final draft of Vaughan's 2024 Municipal Energy Plan is now complete. Council endorsement of the plan is pending.
Once approved, the City’s revised Municipal Energy Plan will:
- set out a pathway to reduce per-capita greenhouse gas emissions by approximately half by 2030, and to reach the target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while respecting the needs of those who live, work and play in Vaughan.
- consider the role of the City in driving and supporting action.
- identify how citizens, businesses and stakeholders can participate in transitioning Vaughan to a low-carbon community.
- help inform the Official Plan Review that is currently underway.
Engagement on the Municipal Energy Plan Update
From May to July 2022, we asked citizens and stakeholders what actions the City and its community members should take to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions and mitigate climate change. Valuable ideas and feedback were provided though an online survey and two interactive community workshops.
The City hosted two virtual community workshops, where participants shared their feedback on the climate actions. The first workshop was held on Wednesday, June 1, a recording of the workshop can be found here. The second workshop was held on Thursday, July 21, a recording of the workshop can be found here.
The City hosted a survey from Thursday, May 19 to Friday, June 17 as an opportunity to provide input on proposed actions that the City and the Vaughan community can take to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The survey concluded Friday, June 17, 2022.
The insights and feedback collected will help the City understand the community’s priorities and needs in developing climate actions that can be implemented successfully.
