Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge
The City of Vaughan is building a bridge over Highway 400 to connect Canada Drive and America Avenue. Once complete, this bridge will enhance Vaughan’s transportation network, help alleviate traffic and allow residents to travel seamlessly from one community to another. Construction of the bridge is underway and is anticipated to be complete by 2026.
The City awarded the contract to EllisDon Civil Ltd. to undertake the detailed design and construction of the bridge.
Construction update
As part of the next phase of the project, the City’s contractor will be building bridge girders – large horizontal beams – over Highway 400. Work will take place according to the following schedule:
Work over Highway 400 southbound lanes: Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17, from midnight to 5 a.m. To complete this work, the southbound on-ramp to Highway 400 from Cityview Boulevard will be closed overnight and rolling road closures will be required.
Work over Highway 400 northbound lanes: Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24, from midnight to 5 a.m. To complete this work, the northbound on-ramp to Highway 400 from Major Mackenzie Drive will be closed overnight and rolling road closures will be required.
Nightly lane closures on Highway 400 will also be required until July 2025. Residential roads will not be impacted by the work.
Keeping Vaughan moving is one of the City’s key priorities, following Council’s endorsement of the Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock, which includes projects like the Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge.
