Celebrating the groundbreaking of Fire Station 7-12!
Vaughan’s 11th fire station set to open in 2026
Work begins on the City of Vaughan’s newest fire hall, Fire Station 7-12!
Today, the City and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service officially broke ground at 9511 Weston Rd. to mark the start of construction for the City’s 11th fire station. Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, VFRS Chief Andrew Zvanitajs and City staff were in attendance for this city-building milestone that will enhance fire safety for everyone who lives in the area.
Why was this location chosen?
The location of this fire station was a strategic choice, made after conducting extensive research, reviewing financial considerations, exploring land availability and evaluating emergency response times.
Once complete, Fire Station 7-12 will support VFRS’ emergency responses from neighbouring stations – mainly for Fire Station 7-7 (the busiest one in York Region), Fire Station 7-5 and Fire Station 7-9. As a result, response times in this area, and city-wide, will improve.
What will the new station look like?
Fire Station 7-12 will be approximately 875 square metres, with access to two apparatus bays directly off Weston Road. The building will embody best design practices, functionality, accessibility and urban design. Along with using appropriate materials and colours to be respectful of the historical character of the neighbourhood, the new station will also be sustainable – it will be designed to LEED Gold standards and will aim to achieve Zero Carbon Building Standard certification. The station will also be designed to minimize disruptions to services at Vellore School and Vellore Hall, while ensuring safe access to Vellore Heritage Park and trails. A new public parking lot for Vellore Hall will be constructed and relocated east to an existing open lawn area of Vellore Heritage Park.
When will it open?
Set to open in 2026, this station will bring emergency response and fire services closer to home for everyone who works, lives and plays in the Vellore Village community.

QUOTE
“Vaughan is one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, and we must do everything possible to manage this expansive growth and build a city where everyone can thrive. This includes expanding our emergency services offerings to meet the needs of residents today and tomorrow – which we are doing with the groundbreaking of Vaughan’s 11th fire station. When open, Station 7-12 will serve residents in the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area to help ensure response times remain low and people are able to get the emergency support they need, quickly. I want to thank all members of Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service, who, under the leadership of Fire Chief Andrew Zvanitajs, continue to work hard to keep our families, friends and neighbours safe.”
