“As a City that promotes community involvement at every level, I am proud that our seniors stay active and contribute to our vibrant community life here in Vaughan,” said the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan. “I offer my congratulations to Mr. Sharma for his volunteerism, leadership and commitment to the community through his work with the Thornhill Senior Citizens Club.”

As President of the Thornhill Senior Citizens Club, Mr. Sharma helped the organization make considerable advancements, including using technology to track members and expanding Club activities to include fitness training and yoga.

“Mr. Sharma’s leadership and vision has allowed the Thornhill Senior Citizens Club to become one of the most diverse seniors groups in terms of its programming,” said Ward 4 Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, who nominated him for the award. “The Club has grown significantly under his leadership, and he has shown great dedication and commitment in helping seniors maintain active lifestyles. As well, Mr. Sharma has led this group to be the first Seniors Club that offers intergenerational activities, thereby bringing together two important elements of our community – youth and seniors.”
