Office of Deputy City Manager, Public Works

Emilie Alderman was appointed in 2024 to Deputy City Manager, Public Works, where she continues to support staff’s commitment to keep Vaughan safe, clean and beautiful.

 

The Deputy City Manager, Public Works, oversees the maintenance and improvement of much of the city's infrastructure and manages essential services – such as road maintenance, water distribution, waste management, snow removal and park upkeep – to ensure a safe, clean and sustainable environment for all residents and visitors.

 

This portfolio includes the following City departments:

  • Environmental Services provides curbside residential waste collection, and water services, wastewater services and stormwater services to Vaughan residents and businesses.
  • Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations maintains parks and open spaces – including trail systems, playgrounds and a variety of sports fields and courts – throughout the city, maintains horticultural displays and flower beds, and ensures the sustainability of the city's urban tree canopy.
  • Transportation and Fleet Management Services maintains Vaughan roads, including snow plowing, windrow clearing and road and sidewalk repairs; manages traffic, including maintaining signalized intersections and streetlights, and administering the School Crossing Guard program; and ensures City vehicles and equipment are well-maintained and operating in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Business Excellence and Operational Performance champions operational excellence, fosters value-driven decision-making and promotes collaboration and innovation to empower departments to deliver impactful, citizen-focused outcomes that enhance Vaughan’s services and improve community well-being and satisfaction.
