Office of Deputy City Manager, Strategic Initiatives

Michael Genova joined the City of Vaughan in 2018 in the role of Director, Corporate and Strategic Communications. He was appointed in 2024 to Deputy City Manager, Strategic Initiatives, where he is committed to helping to enhance decision-making to measure, modernize and transform service delivery.

The Deputy City Manager, Strategic Initiatives oversees the dissemination of critical public information, front-line resident support, community engagement, enterprise-wide advisory services and business consulting, among other critical city-building initiatives.

This portfolio includes the following City departments:

• Communications, Marketing and Engagement provides external and internal communications, marketing, creative and production services, and stakeholder and community engagement support for the Corporation’s departments, including Mayor and Council. The Service Vaughan contact centre is also part of this team.
• Economic Development works to make Vaughan a place where entrepreneurship, business, tourism, art and culture prosper and grow. 
• Inclusion and Community Outreach continues to strengthen and build on the City’s foundation of diversity, inclusion and equity, and works to further the City’s commitment that all Vaughan community members are heard, appreciated and valued.
• Office of the City Clerk supports open, accessible and accountable government by playing an important role in Committee and Council meetings, serving as an information hub for Members of Council and City staff, acting as one of the primary points of contact for Vaughan residents and businesses for a variety of services.
• Strategic Planning and Project Co-ordination plays a critical role in driving organizational success and empowering data-driven decision making through embedding project management, data analytics and strategic planning expertise across the City.
