Community Spaces Plan
Park and open space amenities, recreation programs and facilities, and library services are essential to the high quality of life in Vaughan.
The City has launched the Growing Together: Vaughan Community Spaces Plan (CSP) to guide how these City-owned community spaces and services are provided to Vaughan residents.
As a joint project between Parks Infrastructure Planning and Development, Recreation Services and Vaughan Public Libraries, the CSP will provide strategies and recommendations for the next five years (2024-2029) and a long-range outlook for the next 10 to 25 years (2034-2051) by:
- assessing progress made since the 2018 Active Together Master Plan.
- reviewing current needs and trends for indoor and outdoor facilities and libraries.
- examining funding, provision standards, maintenance cycles and levels of service for existing and future facilities.
- focusing on providing the most value to residents, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of safe, accessible and community-responsive parks and facilities.
Get involved
It’s vital that Vaughan’s park and open space amenities, recreation programs and facilities, and library services reflect community needs. That’s why the City is seeking your perspectives and input to shape this long-term plan. There will be several opportunities for you to get involved from September 2024 to April 2025, before a final report is presented for Council’s consideration in June 2025.
Focus groups
We are hosting a series of online deep dive focus groups with select stakeholders to discuss topics such as what's working well in our libraries, parks and recreation facilities, as well as barriers to access, identified gaps, challenges, and potential solutions. Virtual sessions will be facilitated in small groups and organized per area of interest. So pick the one that best suits you and register by Friday, Nov. 22!
Surveys
An online survey was available from Sept. 9 to Oct. 18 for residents to share how they use Vaughan’s park, recreation and library programs, services and facilities – and how they could be improved. Thank you to those who participated.
A telephone survey was conducted from Sept. 9 to Sept. 25. Thank you to the residents who took the call when randomly selected to take part
