Enforcement officer aided police following a recent Amber Alert
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement after a special presentation for Vaughan Enforcement Officer Ryan Kay during today’s Committee of the Whole Meeting:

“It gives me great pride to acknowledge the selfless actions of one of Vaughan’s very own enforcement officers – Ryan Kay.

“Ryan was off-duty and on his way home, travelling northbound on Highway 400 in the early morning hours of Feb.15, 2019, when he spotted a vehicle matching the description of a car being sought by police.

“Hours earlier, an Amber Alert had been issued. This warning system is enacted in cases of child abduction, prompting Ryan to call 911 while continuing to safely follow the suspect vehicle until OPP officers could take over.

“Ryan’s actions that day set an example from which everyone can learn. The choices we make and the actions we take, no matter how small they may seem on the surface, can make a difference.

“Our city is fortunate to have people like Ryan who embody the values of community service through integrity, dedication and courage.

“Council pledged at the outset of the current 2018 to 2022 term to continue to foster a safe community.

“Ryan’s actions demonstrate how each of us can play an important part to help ensure our public safety and I once again thank him for his service.”
