Mayor Bevilacqua Focuses on Success in Annual Address to the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce
In his second annual address at the Mayor’s Luncheon hosted by the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua said Vaughan is the place to be for business growth, innovation and prosperity.
Speaking to a record crowd at the Venetian Banquet & Hospitality Centre, Mayor Bevilacqua highlighted the City’s successes and stressed that Vaughan is on the path to becoming a world-class city.
“Cities are the economic engines of this country. They are where most of the innovation is taking place and the growth and prosperity of cities will dictate how well we, as a nation, will be able to move forward and compete on an international level,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “The country is in good shape – Canada has been able to absorb the economic shocks of the past few years. This kind of stability has meant that Vaughan has been able to grow its local economy and remain successful.”
In his speech entitled “Success in the City,” Mayor Bevilacqua pointed to consistent investment in Vaughan over the past decade. In 2011 the City exceeded the billion dollar mark in construction for the sixth straight year. The Mayor’s 2012 priorities include the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, the City’s future downtown; the hospital; transit improvements and the completion of some projects that began in 2011.
“There are some very specific reasons why we keep attracting new businesses every year in Vaughan and why we have over 9,000 businesses in the City and why they thrive,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “Cities are magnets for investments, for capital, for individuals who want to live in environments that they feel comfortable in. And so when you look at the trajectory that we are on, it is indeed very positive."
