Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca issued the following statement after a candlelight vigil at City Hall honouring victims of the Dec. 18 shooting at a Vaughan condominium building:

“I was shocked and horrified to learn about the unspeakable tragedy in our community, which claimed the lives of five people and left another in serious condition.

“On behalf of Members of Council and all Vaughan citizens, I express my sincere condolences to the victims of this horrific attack, their families and friends. As a community, we are heartbroken by the tragic loss of life.

“In moments like these, Vaughan residents come together to support one another. Together, we mourn with the victims’ families.

“I want to thank our brave first responders for their immediate and skilled response to a very difficult situation. I have spoken to Chief MacSween of York Regional Police and offered him our full support and gratitude.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims Rita Camilleri, Vittorio Panza, Russell Manock, Helen ‘Lorraine’ Manock, Naveed Dada and Doreen Di Nino who is currently recovering in hospital.

“Flags at all City of Vaughan facilities will remain at half-mast until further notice in honour of the victims.”
