Celebrating local volunteers at annual award ceremony

Volunteering is the ultimate form of public service. It takes a special person who is willing to donate their time and energy to improve our city and our quality of life.
The City of Vaughan is fortunate to have people who make a difference and generously give back to the community.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, every year not-for-profit organizations and community groups are invited to nominate an individual whose outstanding actions have had a distinct impact on the city. Since 2003, Vaughan has recognized more than 1,500 residents for their selfless acts. From teenagers to seniors, these are the people who help raise money for worthy causes, promote cultural events, protect the environment and help when it’s needed most.

At a special annual event last night, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council celebrated 80 volunteers. Each honouree received a certificate and lapel pin to acknowledge their invaluable contributions. The evening included a performance by the Richard Whiteman Trio for the recipients and their guests.

We are blessed to have citizens who give back and I am proud to honour the outstanding achievements of our many volunteers. It is their dedication and generosity that allow organizations to continue to operate their many important programs and services.
