Watch the City’s virtual ceremony at vaughan.ca/live on the 20th anniversary

Tomorrow, the City of Vaughan will mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a virtual ceremony. In 2001, four U.S. planes were hijacked, two of which were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Now, 20 years later, the City, along with Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service, York Regional Police and York Region Paramedic Services, will pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and aftermath.

The virtual ceremony will begin tomorrow at approximately 8:40 a.m. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua will deliver remarks, the flags will be lowered to half-staff and a moment of silence will be observed. Citizens can watch the event at vaughan.ca/live. Tomorrow evening, Vaughan City Hall will be illuminated to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and honour the fallen.

Citizens are encouraged to leave a message of remembrance in the City’s virtual guest book.
