Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement to recognize Pakistan Independence Day:
“Today, we
join Pakistani communities in Vaughan and across Canada to celebrate Pakistan
Independence Day.
“In the city
of Vaughan, diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We are proud to live in
a multicultural city where people of all backgrounds are empowered and celebrated.
It reminds us of the power of co-operation and how we can all learn from each
other to make the world a better place.
“Today is an
opportunity to reflect on the meaningful achievements that Pakistani-Canadians
have made toward building our city. The Pakistani community continues to play a
vital role in shaping our country, contributing many social, cultural and
economic successes.
“Vaughan is
dedicated to preserving and strengthening the relationships we have with the countries
of origin of our citizens. By honouring our ancestry, we help ensure that our
young people and future generations will continue to value and appreciate our
rich heritage.
“I extend my best wishes to everyone
celebrating Pakistan Independence Day.”
