Vaughan Mayor Signs Accord of Cooperation with Rome, Italy

The Mayor of the City of Vaughan has signed an Accord of Cooperation with the Mayor of Rome to strengthen the trade and economic ties between the two cities. The signing of the Accord took place at Rome's City Hall. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Gianni Alemanno, the Mayor of Rome, signed the Accord.

“I am glad that the disciplined and focused approach to promoting the city internationally is showing extremely positive results. To sign an Accord with Rome and Milan in one week is an exceptional achievement in both diplomatic and economic terms,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “This marks an important step that will begin the process of economic cooperation between our two cities and provide new growth opportunities for Vaughan and its growing business community. In order to remain competitive in an ever-changing global economy, we must look beyond our borders.” 

The agreement states that both cities will stay in close contact and provide each other with information with regard to trade, technical transfer and economic cooperation. The agreement is valid for a period of four years, October 2012 - October 2016. The visit to Rome also included a meeting with members of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, including the President, who had visited Vaughan in July of this year and met with Mayor Bevilacqua. 
 
“The City of Vaughan is committed to supporting new growth opportunities for our community and for our local businesses,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “One of the goals of our Economic Development Strategy is to encourage international business development and expand the City’s reach on an international level and establish Vaughan as an economic gateway.”
 
Rome is the capital of Italy and is located in the central region of Lazio. It has a population of approximately 2.8 million people. The City’s economy is largely driven has a strong presence in the service industry, high-technology companies, research, construction, retail and tourism.
