Vaughan Prepares For Winter Storm
Jan. 5, 2014
The City of Vaughan is prepared to respond to a snowstorm that is expected to arrive late in the day on Sunday, Jan. 5.
Salting operations got underway early this morning. The City will switch to plowing once salt is no longer effective. The goal of these operations is to ensure streets are safe for vehicles.
To assist with snow clearing operations, please follow these tips:
• Stay off the roads during a heavy snow storm unless it is essential
• Do not park on the road
• Clear snow and ice from the public sidewalk in front of your property
• Do not pile or blow snow onto the roadway. It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act to place snow on the roadway
• Stay well back from plows and salting equipment

Branches that fell during the recent ice storm may impact snow removal operations and traffic flow. If the expected amount of snow falls, some streets will be narrowed considerably, especially if they are already impacted by downed branches.
After the plowing is complete, the City will begin additional snow removal efforts on streets that have been narrowed significantly. This may include spot removal across from where branches are laying on the road or snow from one whole side of the street being removed.
