Vaughan Remembers

Every year, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we honour the brave Canadians who served and continue to serve our country.

On Monday, Nov. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council will host a Remembrance Day service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph (80 Wallace St.) to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.

Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony and are welcome to join us at the Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena (5020 Hwy 7) for refreshments following the service. Please note, Wallace Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, and parking will be available at Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena.

Throughout November, you are encouraged to share thoughts of remembrance and messages of peace on the City of Vaughan’s poppy wall at City Hall. There, you can also view this year’s historical exhibit, Defined by Duty, which pays tribute to the wartime experiences of people from Vaughan and York Region. The exhibit will be on display until Friday, Nov. 15 and online at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth for one year.

QUOTES

“The red poppy pinned to our chest serves as a reminder of the heroic Canadians who sacrificed their lives to ensure our future. On Remembrance Day, we come together to pause and reflect upon the incredible women and men who went to war and serve today to ensure our nation’s continued freedom. These selfless acts of courage and bravery must never be taken for granted. I encourage everyone to take a moment on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. to be grateful for their sacrifice, which, ultimately, allows us the privilege of living in one of the greatest countries in the world. Lest We Forget.”

- Mayor Steven Del Duca
