Yonge-Steeles Corridor Collector Roads Environmental Assessment Study
The Yonge-Steeles corridor is evolving. As part of its growth, the City of Vaughan is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment study for the proposed extensions of Royal Palm Drive and Powell Road. The City is proposing an extension of Royal Palm Drive, from Hilda Avenue to Yonge Street, and of Powell Road, from Pinewood Drive to Steeles Avenue West.
The aim of this study is to complete the planning and preliminary design of these proposed transportation improvements, as recommended in the Yonge-Steeles Corridor Secondary Plan.

The process
This study is being undertaken in accordance with the planning and design process as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in 2023), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
The City is proceeding with phases 3 and 4 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, which includes identifying and evaluating alternative design concepts for the proposed road extensions, completing the preliminary design, and documenting the process within an Environmental Study Report. This study will also review and confirm the need and justification for these recommended road extensions.
Once complete, the proposed design will offer an attractive landscape with street trees, dedicated cycling lanes, active transportation amenities and on-street parking.
