You’ve got mail! The City of Vaughan’s 2022 Waste Collection Schedule is hitting mailboxes this week. The new schedule offers a year at a glance of weekly and seasonal changes to services, including Double-Up Days and leaf and yard waste collection, all on one page. The schedule, including yellow and blue versions based on your zone, is also available online at vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

Not only is the 2022 Waste Collection Schedule concise and easy to read, but it also provides details on how to purchase garbage tags, exchange a City-issued blue box or green bin, and includes a visual guide outlining where everyday household items belong. Following focus groups with members of the community, the design evolved to feature a poster-like feel and new legend to easily view collection days. It also highlights the City’s commitment to waste reduction through the inclusion of Curbside Giveaway Days, which encourages reuse, builds a stronger community and contributes to a more sustainable city.

The City is a leader in waste management. Vaughan’s early commitment to York Region’s SM4RT Living Plan (Waste Management Master Plan) strengthens that promise. That’s why the 2022 schedule also features the addition of the “Sort it right!” section, reminding residents that properly sorting waste not only helps reduce the amount of garbage sent to landfills but also keeps collection days running smoothly.

Did you know you can receive a personalized waste collection schedule right to your phone? Download Recycle Coach from the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week.

Waste set out during the winter months

As Vaughan has many snowy days ahead, the City is reminding you of proper waste set out throughout the winter months. Set waste bins back from the curb approximately one metre on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home). Bins should never be placed on top of or behind snowbanks. This allows crews to safely collect waste and for the City to clear the snow effectively in residential areas. Have all waste items out by 7 a.m. on the day of your scheduled curbside collection. Collectors will not return for items set out late.
