The 2022 Waste Collection Schedule is on its way
Clear a space on your refrigerator or garage wall: the City of Vaughan’s 2022 Waste Collection Schedule will be arriving in Vaughan mailboxes starting the week of Dec. 6. The new schedule offers a year at a glance of weekly and seasonal changes to services, including Double-Up Days and leaf and yard waste collection, all on one page. Don’t want to wait? The schedule is easily accessible online now at vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.
Not only is the 2022 Waste Collection Schedule concise and easy to read, it also provides details on how to purchase garbage tags, exchange a City-issued blue box or green bin, and includes a visual guide outlining where everyday household items belong.
The new schedule design stems from researching how citizens use their schedules and what information matters most to ensure it is easy to understand. Following focus groups with members of the community, the design evolved to feature a poster-like feel and new legend to easily view collection days. It also highlights the City’s commitment to waste reduction through the inclusion of Curbside Giveaway Days, which encourages recycling, builds a stronger community and contributes to a more sustainable city.
The City of Vaughan is a leader in waste management. Vaughan’s early commitment to York Region’s SM4RT Living Plan (Waste Management Master Plan) strengthens that promise. That’s why the 2022 calendar also features the addition of the “Sort it right!” section, reminding residents that properly sorting waste not only helps reduce the amount of garbage sent to landfills but also keeps collection days running smoothly.
Did you know you can receive a personalized waste collection schedule right to your phone? Download Recycle Coach from the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week.

Waste set out during the winter months
To help ensure waste is collected during the winter months, set waste bins back from the curb approximately one metre on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home). Bins should never be placed on top of or behind snowbanks. This allows crews to safely collect waste and for the City to clear the snow effectively in residential areas. Have all waste items out by 7 a.m. on the day of your scheduled curbside collection. Collectors will not return for items set out late.
Christmas tree collection
You may have only just trimmed the tree, but for two weeks, starting Tuesday, Jan. 4 until Friday, Jan. 14, you can place Christmas trees curbside on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day. When placing a tree out for collection, remove all tinsel and ornaments. Do not put the tree in a plastic bag and ensure it is placed off the road and snowbanks so collection staff can access it safely. If you have broken glass ornaments, safely package the pieces in a cardboard box labelled “broken glass.”
