What is the goal of this committee?
The mandate of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is to help guide the City in removing and preventing barriers in policies, practices, programs and services to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This includes reviewing Vaughan’s Accessibility Plan and other accessibility reports, identifying accessibility opportunities and challenges within the community and advising the Mayor and Members of Council on requirements to implement accessibility standards across Vaughan. How many positions are available?
The City is seeking two Vaughan residents to join the committee until Nov. 30, 2022. New appointments will be considered by Vaughan Council this September. In total, the committee is made up of 10 individuals – one Member of Council and nine community members.
 
What are the eligibility requirements to join?
To be eligible for appointment on Vaughan’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Vaughan or someone who owns property in Vaughan, a Canadian citizen and must not be employed by the municipality.
 
When are meetings held?
Committee meetings are held on the last Tuesday of every other month, beginning at 7 p.m. Meetings are not held in July and August.

Complete the Accessibility Advisory Committee application package (PDF) and submit it via email to the Office of the City Clerk at clerks@vaughan.ca. Applications will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 6 at 4:30 p.m.
