Review the City’s draft plan and share feedback until July 16

The area around Vaughan Mills mall, known as the Vaughan Mills Centre, is evolving. As this is a bustling space for people who live, work and play there, the City of Vaughan has explored ways to enhance the area and create a safe, accessible and sustainable vision that reflects the changing community’s needs.

Developed with public input, the City has completed a draft Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan, which will serve as a comprehensive reference guide to creating high-quality public spaces – both City- and privately-owned – and a pedestrian-oriented streetscape development in the area. Citizens are encouraged to join the conversation once again at vaughan.ca/VaughanMillsPlan. Explore the draft plan and share comments to help finalize it. The digital presentation will be available until Friday, July 16.

The Vaughan Mills Centre and the lands between Highway 400 and Weston Road south of Rutherford Road, include places that are or will be accessible to all who travel to and through the area for work or leisure. This refers to streets, lanes, public squares, plazas, sidewalks, cycling lanes, trails, future parks, open spaces and connections to conservation areas. Last year, the City initiated a study of the area to develop a Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan. Now, a draft plan has been developed. Once finalized, this plan will build on the existing policy frameworks and city-wide urban design guidelines to support the evolution of the Vaughan Mills Centre to be a more safe, convenient, accessible and high-quality public destination. An implementation timeline will also be created as part of the review.

Public engagement remains an important component of the planning process for this project. From July to August 2020, the City asked citizens to participate in an online survey to collect feedback on what the ideal Vaughan Mills Centre might look like, how visitors travel to and from the area and what would make the visiting experience even better. In February 2021, the City once again encouraged citizens to join the conversation by attending a virtual Public Information Centre. At the session, participants learned about the purpose of the study, reviewed guiding principles and key elements of the plan and provided feedback on the proposed ideas for parks, public areas, private spaces and streets around the Vaughan Mills Centre. Reference the online presentation (PDF) for more information. A second online survey was also issued in March 2021 to gather additional feedback from the community to further inform the City’s complete public space master plan.

The City encourages citizens to join the conversation once again. Until Friday, July 16, visit vaughan.ca/VaughanMillsPlan to review a digital presentation, learn about the draft Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan and have your say on the proposed elements and options.
