Burn with caution

Dry, hot weather means extra steps must be taken with outdoor fires

Due to unseasonably dry and hot weather conditions, Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service is advising you to exercise caution when conducting permitted open-air burning, and using outdoor firepits and wood-fire barbecues.

If you are using an outdoor flame of any type, remember these tips:

  • Follow all provincial and/or local permit requirements.
  • Never leave a fire of any kind unattended.
  • Use only clean, safe fuel.
  • Be aware of changes to the wind.
  • Have a method to extinguish a fire close at hand (fire extinguisher or sand).

If conditions worsen, a fire ban may be necessary. You can learn more about fire burn permits on the City’s website. More information is available at vaughan.ca/fire.
