Community Centre improvements underway

Enhancements, cleaning and repairs being made while community centres are closed to the public

While Vaughan facilities remain closed to the public, the City of Vaughan is using this opportunity to complete necessary improvements to its community centres. These improvements will be completed in time for when community centres reopen to the public.

Staff have been working diligently to increase cleaning and disinfecting efforts in all areas throughout the community centres, including the sanitization of all equipment. As a quality assurance measure, the City has also introduced an electronic testing program used to ensure disinfection tactics are effective. This program is widely used as a quality standard method in the food, hospitality and healthcare industries. Healthcare industry cleaning techniques have been undertaken by staff for use in all washrooms and on high-contact surfaces, including tables, chairs, benches, doors and equipment.

General improvements include refinishing and waxing floors, replacing or steam cleaning mats, painting public areas and fitness centres, repairing pool fixtures and tiles, and updating equipment as required. Staff are also completing work that was scheduled for later in the year to minimize further service disruptions upon reopening, such as pool shutdowns and fitness equipment preventative maintenance.

In addition to these improvements, the City is working to implement a number of safety measures in collaboration with Provincial and Public Health guidelines for a safe return to recreational activities when community centres reopen to the public.

While community centres remain closed in response to COVID-19, Recreation Services continues to offer a number of virtual recreation resources for all ages, abilities and areas of interest. Popular programming includes:
