Court Decisions End Compliance Audit Charges Arising from 2006 Election
βThe Court decisions issued last week dismissing election finance prosecutions against Linda Jackson, Mario Campese and Michael Di Biase will not be appealed.
The Court decisions mean that remaining charges against Michael Di Biase and Bernie DiVona would also likely be dismissed. As a result, the City will not be pursuing any further proceedings in respect of these matters, as any further proceedings would involve additional legal costs for Vaughan's taxpayers. The charges all arose out of the 2006 election.
Vaughan Council was at all times diligent in dealing with these matters. Compliance audits are initiated through sworn affidavits from members of the public and under the Municipal Elections Act, Council was obligated to proceed with the compliance audits requested.
