Get involved and help inform the plan that will shape the future of the Vaughan Mills Centre. As the City of Vaughan continues its study to develop the Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan – a guide to promote high-quality public and private spaces and pedestrian-oriented streetscape development in the Vaughan Mills Centre area – citizens are encouraged to once again join the conversation, virtually. On Thursday, Feb. 25 an online Public Information Centre will be held for participants to hear project updates, review design concepts, ask questions and more. Register at vaughan.ca/VaughanMillsPlan.

The space around Vaughan Mills mall – known as the Vaughan Mills Centre – and the lands between Highway 400 and Weston Road south of Rutherford Road, include places that are or will be accessible to all who travel to and through the area for work or leisure. This refers to streets, lanes, public squares, plazas, sidewalks, cycling lanes, trails, future parks, open spaces and connections to conservation areas. Last year, the City initiated a study of this bustling area to develop a Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan. This plan will build on the existing policy frameworks and city-wide urban design guidelines to support the evolution of the Vaughan Mills Centre to be a more safe, convenient, accessible and high-quality public destination. An implementation timeline will also be developed as part of the review.

From July 21 to Aug. 14, 2020, the City asked citizens to participate in an online survey to collect feedback on what the ideal spaces around Vaughan Mills mall might look like, how visitors travel to and from the area and what would make the visiting experience even better. As public engagement is vital to the development and success of this study, the City encourages citizens to once again join the conversation.

The virtual Public Information Centre on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. will be held via Zoom. Those who attend will learn about the purpose of the study, review guiding principles and key elements of the plan and provide feedback on the proposed ideas for parks, public and private spaces and streets around the Vaughan Mills Centre. Feedback collected from this session, combined with the initial survey results, will help develop a complete public space master plan that reflects safety, accessibility, sustainability and functionality. A subsequent online survey will be available following the virtual Public Information Centre from Friday, Feb. 26 until Sunday, March 14. Both the registration for the Public Information Session and the survey will be available at vaughan.ca/VaughanMillsPlan.
