Help shape Vaughan’s Black History Month celebration
Submit your video
message about Black Canadians who inspire you to be included in this year’s
virtual event
On Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m., the City of Vaughan will celebrate
influential Black Canadians who have made a positive and lasting impact. And we
need your help! Vaughan citizens are encouraged to get involved in this year’s
virtual Black History Month event by telling us about the changemakers who
inspire them.
To participate – record
a 10 to 15-second video message sharing your thoughts on a noteworthy Black
Canadian changemaker who has inspired, empowered, and exemplified exceptional
leadership in your life or community and the reason why. Video submissions can
be sent to vaughancelebrates@vaughan.ca until Wednesday, Feb.
2 and may be featured in the City’s virtual event.
While event details are
being finalized, you can watch last year’s virtual Black History Month event on
the City’s YouTube channel.
Officially
recognized in December 1995 by the Parliament of Canada, Black History Month is
observed across Canada every February. It is a celebration that unites
communities, like Vaughan, and honours the people who have made lasting
city-building – and nation-building – contributions.
Recognizing
cultural and heritage months and flag-raisings are just some of the many ways
the City demonstrates its commitment to fostering a greater sense of community,
awareness and appreciation for the diversity of cultures, creeds and faiths
that thrive throughout Vaughan.
