Road safety is a shared responsibility and continues to be a top priority for the City of Vaughan. The Lawford Area Traffic Study is now complete, with more than 550 residents participating across multiple engagement opportunities, which helped inform the final report (PDF).

The study area included Lawford Road and the surrounding area (north of Major Mackenzie Drive, west of Weston Road, south of Teston Road and east of Pine Valley Drive).

Here are some of the improvements coming to the area:

Short-term implementation plans are already underway, including the installation of:

  • flexi posts and bollards.
  • “local traffic only” signs.
  • painted edge lines and centrelines.
  • radar message boards.

Medium- and long-term implementation plans in conjunction with other road safety partners like York Region, York Region Transit, York Catholic District School Board and York Region District School Board.

Examples of medium- and long-term measures include more extensive construction, such as:

  • pedestrian crossovers.
  • curb radius reduction.
  • cycling facilities.
  • path connections.

Staff will evaluate these measures through future programs and initiatives. These recommendations have been developed to promote sustainable and active travel, such as walking, cycling and public transportation, while continuing to monitor and address safety for all road users. They are also designed to address connectivity and accessibility and support mobility for all age groups and all abilities.
