Join the City of Vaughan in the fight against climate change

Make a difference this Earth Hour

On March 19, the City of Vaughan will join communities around the world to observe Earth Hour – a global movement to raise awareness for climate change. Every year, Earth Hour is celebrated by powering down and turning off the lights for one hour.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua is taking the lead by being more environmentally friendly and reducing his energy consumption. Before Earth Hour this Saturday, he will be releasing a video every day this week on Facebook and Twitter to demonstrate how he is making a difference. He is also challenging citizens to join in the conversation using #VaughanEarthHour and share a video or photo of how they are combatting climate change.

The community is invited to join Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council for the ninth annual Earth Hour Vaughan event at City Hall on March 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. Featured activities include an innovative energy exhibit, lantern walk, live entertainment and Vaughan’s very own Green Hero Award presentation.

QUOTE

We have a proud tradition in Vaughan of championing sustainability and making our city a greener place for tomorrow. As Chair of PowerStream, I know first-hand the impact that conserving energy has on our monthly bills. We sometimes take electricity for granted and that is why I am challenging you to join me in the fight against climate change – not just in the lead up to Earth Hour, but every day. We are committed to addressing local environmental issues and working together to ensure an even better, more sustainable city. The power to make a difference is in our hands.”
-Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
