Mayor Bevilacqua celebrates Canada Day 2019
July 1 signature event
hosted at the City’s new North Maple Regional Park
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement to mark the 152nd celebration of Canada Day:
“Today,
Canadians across the nation come together to celebrate a deep sense of pride
for our country.
“There
are countless examples in our own community of citizens who exemplify what it means
to be Canadian. Just as Vaughan is deserving of its stellar reputation as a
city of choice, so too are our compassionate residents, whose contributions
enrich our civic life every day. We donate generously to charity, we answer the
call when need arises and we are quick to extend a helping hand to those who
could use some support.
“As
Canadians, we value freedom, respect our cultural differences and are committed
to social justice. We also appreciate
our democracy, encourage public service and understand that everyone has
something to contribute.
“I admire
all Canadians who become a source of inspiration by embracing creativity,
generosity and vision for a better tomorrow.
“There
is no better way to celebrate ourselves and our country than through community
events, such as today’s festivities at North Maple Regional Park. Vaughan’s
signature Canada Day celebration is one of the many award-winning events hosted
by the city. This holiday is also a time for friends, families and neighbours
to share a love and patriotism for this great nation we call home.
“This
year’s free, fun-filled event did not disappoint. With live entertainment and
activities, including a headline performance by Juno Award-winning MAGIC!,
citizens and visitors to our city were treated to a celebration deserving of
our country’s 152nd birthday.
“North
Maple Regional Park is the culmination of our shared appreciation for the
environment and the strong bond we share with our fellow citizens throughout
our communities. These are some of the same values that forged our nation –
strengthened over time and proudly celebrated together every July 1.
“Since
Confederation, Canada has been, and remains, a land of equal opportunity where
dreams come to life for all citizens of all backgrounds. We set an example for
the rest of the world that people with vastly different experiences can live
together peacefully and celebrate all that makes us unique.
“The City of Vaughan is
a shining example that diversity truly is our strength. Since 2011, we have
been proud to welcome nearly 11,000 newcomers to Vaughan and 105 different
languages are spoken here. This has helped make Vaughan a great place to live,
work and raise a family.
“On this
Canada Day, I look back on what we have accomplished and look forward to our
promising future.
“Thank
you to everyone who came out to celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday with us. I
wish you a happy, safe and memorable Canada Day.”
