Mayor Bevilacqua celebrates National Public Works Week
City’s team committed
to providing Service Excellence to citizens
Mayor
Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement to mark the beginning of
National Public Works Week during a flag-raising ceremony at the City’s Joint
Operations Centre:
“Today,
we are gathered to raise the flag for National Public Works Week in recognition
of the men and women who deliver the exceptional front-line City services our
citizens rely on.
“The
City of Vaughan’s Public Works portfolio has five departments dedicated to
supporting residents:
- Environmental Services
- Fleet Management Services
- Infrastructure Delivery
- Infrastructure Planning and Corporate Asset Management
- Transportation Services, Parks and Forestry Operations
“The collective efforts of this team continue to have a positive
impact on residents and visitors every day, whether it is keeping roads clear
of snow, removing garbage or ensuring our drinking water is safe.
“Public Works strives to provide services and innovative
technology that elevate the level of service while increasing the value of our
taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.
“According
to the City’s latest Citizen Satisfaction Survey, an outstanding 97 per cent of
citizens are happy with the quality of life in Vaughan. Our residents also
reported a 91 per cent overall satisfaction rating with City services.
“This is
what commitment to Service Excellence looks like and it is being noticed beyond
Vaughan’s borders.
“The City’s
Public Works team delivers quality services to residents with dedication and
pride. Their efforts have been
recognized through the following awards:
- Vaughan’s Infrastructure Delivery team completed the Glen Shields Bridge project and was the recipient of the 2018 Ontario Public Works Project of the Year Award in the less than $2-million category
- Infrastructure Planning and Corporate Asset Management received the Ontario Good Roads Association 2018 John Niedra Better Practices Competition Award for its innovative and interactive activity for students visiting the City of Vaughan during the 2018 Take Your Kids to Work Day
“These examples validate our shared confidence in Vaughan’s Public Works staff. They care deeply about their work and embrace the important roles and duties required of them as our trusted city-building partners.
“I once
again congratulate the entire Public Works team for going above and
beyond in helping to safeguard our exceptional quality of life in Vaughan.”
