City’s 10 public libraries are central to Vaughan communities

The following is a statement delivered by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, welcoming guests to the official re-opening ceremony for the Bathurst Clark Resource Library on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.

“The now re-opened Bathurst Clark Resource Library has been the cornerstone of our Thornhill community for 25 years. With investments made in new resources, programming and technology, we have helped ensure that this facility continues to be enjoyed for generations to come.

“The newly re-opened Bathurst Clark Resource Library has a number of new features, including free Wi-Fi, a children’s area, self check-out and materials in French, Farsi, Russian and Spanish – among other languages.

“Since childhood, books have been very close to my heart and reading has always been one of my most cherished activities.  As Mayor, it is my duty to ensure that the City facilitates this experience for Vaughan residents. We all share a thirst for knowledge – a continuous journey toward discovery and self-improvement.

“The Bathurst Clark Resource Library, like the City’s many other public library branches, houses countless opportunities to learn more about diversity and the trailblazers of history whose sacrifices have been enshrined in pages for future generations to understand and appreciate.

As Mayor, I have made it a priority to invest in the critical social infrastructure that is helping to transform our city into the vibrant, dynamic community it is today. I am happy to share that the City’s latest Citizen Satisfaction Survey reports 96 per cent of residents are satisfied with Vaughan’s public libraries.

“Vaughan communities now have 10 public library branches to enjoy, each boasting a collection of material as diverse as the city we live in. We also recently celebrated the opening of the Vellore Village Public Library and the City will have 11 library branches once the PwC-YMCA Tower is complete in the heart of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre – our emerging downtown.

“I remain committed to making vital investments for our citizens, such as today’s re-opening of the Bathurst Clark Resource Library. Together, we will ensure that the City’s public libraries continue to enrich the lives of our youth, families and vibrant seniors population.

“Welcome to the new and improved Bathurst Clark Resource Library.”
