Mayor Bevilacqua pays tribute to crossing guards
Valued
community members put children’s safety first
Mayor
Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement on Crossing Guard
Appreciation Day:
“Crossing
Guard Appreciation Day is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the men and
women who carry out their invaluable service, at and around our schools with
pride and professionalism.
“We
share the responsibility of ensuring our children get to school and arrive back
home safely.
“Vaughan’s
dedicated team of crossing guards are friendly and passionate public servants
who contribute to our quality of life by making a difference in the lives of
children in our community.
“They are
friendly faces around school zones throughout the city. They dutifully endure
bitter cold and hot summer days – often with a warm smile and enthusiastic
waves for neighbours and parents going about their busy lives.
“Through
this routine, repeated every school day, we see in our crossing guards the same
principles we covet for our own children: dedication, perseverance and trust.
“These
are the everyday actions that define our city.
“Vaughan’s
evolution has been remarkable. Since 2010, we have ushered in many
city-building initiatives that showcase our renaissance and bring into focus
our bright future.
“Throughout
this journey together, we have never lost sight of the ideals, values and
priorities that demonstrate our city’s compassion as a caring community.
“When
the City of Vaughan seeks dedicated citizens interested in becoming crossing
guards, without fail, our committed residents answer the call and step up to answer
the call of service.
“I encourage
anyone who strongly believes in the importance of safeguarding our communities,
to visit ‘Employment Opportunities’ at vaughan.ca to learn more about becoming
a crossing guard.
“Join me
today in paying tribute to all our hard-working crossing guards throughout the
City of Vaughan who help keep our children safe day after day.”
