The City of Vaughan’s Summer Company program helped four students become entrepreneurs

The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation during the Dec. 15 Council meeting:

“I am pleased to recognize four young entrepreneurs who received support through the City's Summer Company training and grant program this year. From clothing design to personal fitness and development, social media marketing and management to app development, these emerging business leaders are formulating a path to success and strengthening our city's economic future along the way.

"Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, these bright minds channelled their creativity and innovative spirit to open their own business this summer. Their passion, perseverance and commitment serve as an inspiration to their peers and the next generation of business owners.

"Vaughan's Summer Company program is managed by the Small Business and Entrepreneurship team in the Economic and Cultural Development department. It provides young people with the tools to start their own companies, hands-on coaching from local business leaders and a provincial grant of up to $3,000 toward startup expenses and operating costs.

"The City of Vaughan is committed to business excellence and is an economic leader in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. With more than 19,000 companies that employ more than 227,000 people, Vaughan has the talent, resources, networks and transportation connections to help businesses of all sizes grow. Vaughan is reaching unrivalled heights as a rapidly emerging marketplace that is rich with investment opportunities. Our exceptional quality of life is a testament to our talented, diverse and robust business community, which sets us apart as a destination of choice.

"In Vaughan, we believe in providing entrepreneurs with the tools required to drive innovation and achieve the ultimate goal of creating a prosperous business. We have experienced a significant shift in how business is conducted this year. We remain whole-heartedly committed to supporting our small business community because our strength lies within their success.

"I want to thank our Small Business and Entrepreneurship team for their dedication to strengthening our small business community, especially during these unprecedented times. We see the meaningful and positive impact their work has on our local business community and economy. The Summer Company program continues to be a success because of the team's commitment to Service Excellence.

"I also want to acknowledge once again and thank Anthony Tovbis, Alan Nemirovski, Eric Pimentel and Ananya Vishwanath for their contributions to city-building. They personify Vaughan's entrepreneurial spirit and are helping to lay the foundation for a bright and promising future for all. I look forward to seeing where their vision takes them and wish them every success as they continue their journey.”
