The following is a statement by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua:
“I
have requested that flags at City of Vaughan facilities be lowered to half-mast
in memory of the victims of the recent shootings in Portapique, Nova Scotia. At this
time, media reports confirm that 13 innocent lives have been lost including
RCMP Const. Heidi Stevenson.
“The
City of Vaughan joins communities in Nova Scotia and across Canada in mourning.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ friends and families.
“Tragedies
like these remind us of the courage, commitment and strength first-responders
demonstrate each day. We are grateful for their unflinching bravery and
willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice so that people can be safe.”
