Award presented in the Operations category for the Great Walks of Vaughan program

The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special virtual presentation during the Nov. 3 Committee of the Whole meeting:

“The City of Vaughan has received the Parks and Recreation Ontario Award of Excellence in the category of Operations for the Great Walks of Vaughan program. This highly coveted award recognizes and honours the achievements of people who contribute to the overall quality of life in their neighbourhoods through the advancement of parks and recreation programs.

“The Great Walks of Vaughan was established in 2018 to encourage the exploration of Vaughan’s local neighbourhoods, nature walks and trails. It is a multi-generational program that promotes physical activity, healthy living and wellness in the community. Our vision for this program was to promote active routes and amenities that are publicly accessible to all citizens.

“The health and well-being of Vaughan residents is at the heart of each and every one of our city-building efforts. As one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities, we are dedicated to championing a healthier and greener environment that will elevate the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here.

“Now more than ever, it is important to keep our bodies and minds active as we continue to follow the advice of our public health experts and practise physical distancing. Exploring Vaughan’s extensive trail network any time of the year is a wonderful way to exercise and get some fresh air while keeping safe.

“I want to offer my sincere congratulations to the administration, particularly, the teams from Recreation Services, Parks Planning, and Infrastructure Planning and Corporate Asset Management for their passion, hard work and dedication to this initiative. Thank you for your ongoing contribution to Vaughan’s green city mission and your unwavering commitment to building safe, accessible and sustainable spaces for future generations.”
