Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua delivered the following statement during an event at
Hospice Vaughan to confirm $2 million in provincial funding.
“Today
is a great day for Hospice Vaughan and the families who rely on their important
services.
“As Mayor
and Honorary Chair of the “Better Ending” Capital Campaign to build a
Residential Hospice and Centre of Excellence, I am pleased that the provincial
government reaffirmed their $2 million commitment to this project. This contribution will bring us one step
forward on our journey toward building this state-of-the-art facility in
Vaughan.
“The city’s new hospice named the
Hospice Vaughan – Mario & Nick Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre
of Excellence, will be especially important in assisting individuals and their
families by providing first-class personal care.
“When the doors to this
facility open later this year, our citizens will have peace of mind knowing critical
services, such as counselling and emotional and spiritual support, will be
available for loved ones receiving hospice care.
“Hospice Vaughan is a vital
part of our community. It will serve as a place of strength and support
for family members who want the very best for their loved ones. People deserve
to be treated with dignity and respect at every stage of life. It is
important that we continue to invest in the care of our neighbours by
providing a space people can rely on in their time of need.
“I would like to express my
gratitude to the province for contributing to this worthy cause and continuing
to make investments in our community which will help improve the quality of
life of Vaughan residents. The “Better Ending” Capital Campaign has already
raised more than $10 million toward the total $12-million cost of the hospice
building.
“The support, and generous
contributions of this community and beyond, allow this organization to continue
its amazing work and help people when they need it most.”
