Pet-ential off-leash dog areas coming to Vaughan
Participate in the online
workshop until Aug. 31 to join the conversation
Where should an off-leash dog area be? What features should it have? How should it be maintained? To clearly understand and respond to the needs of residents, the City of Vaughan is continuing to develop its Local Off-Leash Dog Area Strategy and identify locations throughout the community to pilot local spaces for pets to roam leash-free. Because public engagement is vital to the development of this strategy, the City invites citizens to join the conversation – virtually. An online workshop is now available at vaughan.ca/DogPark.

Participate in the online
self-directed workshop to learn more about the strategy, view key findings
to-date, review and provide feedback on the eight recommended pilot locations,
and indicate if there is interest to join the Off-Leash Dog Area Stewardship
Program at one of the pilot locations. The workshop will take 15 minutes to
complete and is available until Monday, Aug. 31.
In advance of participating
in the online workshop, citizens can also view this presentation (PDF) that outlines
the findings of the study to-date, as well as details about general research,
layout options, the site selection process and past engagement results. Illustrations
on the recommended pilot locations, a downloadable city-wide map (PDF) and a video with more information
about the local off-leash dog area study are also available.
Several opportunities
for feedback have been made available and will continue to be in the future. Previous
outreach was conducted at pop-up events, via an online survey and through
various stakeholder meetings to gather input from citizens on aspects related
to local off-leash dog areas, including desired locations, design, amenities, operations
and maintenance. For this next step in the process, the City has reviewed more
than 70 locations and identified the top eight recommended pilot locations,
which have been incorporated into the workshop. Feedback collected from all public
engagement processes will be used to inform the City of the needs of dog owners,
help shape the development of future recommendations and provide input into the
development of a new Local Off-Leash Dog Area Strategy.
