Feedback is needed to help shape the City’s Age-Friendly Community Action Plan

June is Seniors Month! It is a time to appreciate the contributions of seniors and look to the future to ensure they can age with dignity, respect and independence. The City of Vaughan is taking steps to create a more age-friendly community where all residents can be active and engaged members of society at every stage of life – including retirement.

The City is developing an Age-Friendly Community Action Plan by studying local data and key age-friendly indicators, reviewing best practices and promising approaches from other communities and capturing insights, feedback and ideas from residents and community stakeholders.

The second virtual community workshop will be taking place on Tuesday, June 22 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At that time, an update on feedback received so far will be shared with residents and stakeholders. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the current state of age-friendliness in Vaughan. Citizens can register for this workshop online.

There are other ways to get involved in this project:
  • Take the online questionnaire to share feedback. The questionnaire is open until Wednesday, June 30.
  • Call 905-832-2281, ext. 3622 and leave feedback on the dedicated voicemail box.
  • Sign up to receive notifications about the project and to learn about upcoming engagement opportunities by emailing agefriendly@vaughan.ca.
  • Visit vaughan.ca/AgeFriendly for more information.
The Age-Friendly Community Action Plan is being developed under the direction and guidance of the City’s Older Adult Task Force. The task force’s mandate is to make recommendations on implementing action items related to the City’s Older Adult Strategy, including exploring opportunities to move towards an age-friendly community and the promotion of healthy seniors.

Vaughan’s Age-Friendly Community Action Plan reinforces the City’s commitment to Active, Safe and Diverse Communities, a strategic priority in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan that aims to enhance well-being, enrich Vaughan communities and maintain safety in the community.
