City hosting a virtual open house on Oct. 14 for residents to provide feedback on future land use

The City of Vaughan is taking the next step to prepare for future growth by undertaking a comprehensive city-wide review of the Zoning By-law, which regulates land use and development standards within the city. Your input is needed! A virtual open house will be hosted on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. for the public to learn more about the next phase of the project and ways to get involved. Participate at zonevaughan.ca.

Vaughan is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada and a number of progressive city-building initiatives are currently underway. These include major investments in transit, transportation and healthcare across the City and within the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, the new downtown core. With plans for significant growth over the next 35 years, and in accordance with provincial legislation, the City is undertaking a city-wide comprehensive review of its Zoning By-law – a by-law that regulates the use of land with specific criteria for development and construction on a property. Once updated, this by-law will include contemporary uses and standards that regulate building type, layout, setbacks from streets, heights and densities.

Those who attend the virtual open house will have the opportunity to hear from the project team about the third draft of the by-law, key dates and ways to get involved in future opportunities for feedback and information. Following the presentation, a live question-and-answer period will be open to all participants. A link to the online open house is available at zonevaughan.ca. A copy of the draft Zoning By-law is also available on the webpage for those who cannot attend.

The City recognizes the importance of protecting citizens from the global COVID-19 pandemic, while also continuing to move the City forward. Public consultation remains an important part of the planning and city-building process. This virtual open house is just one of the ways residents can have their say until in-person meetings are permitted.

In addition to the virtual open house, there are many other ways individuals can get involved and provide feedback on the third draft of the by-law. These include leaving a comment on the interactive map or sending an email to info@zonevaughan.ca.
