During tonight’s Committee of the Whole (Public Meeting), Mayor Steven Del Duca, Ward 2 Councillor Adriano Volpentesta and Members of Council recognized Ronald and Anna Moro as the 2023 Ward 2 Civic Heroes – they are a couple that, as a team, embodies the qualities of a true hero among us.

Ronald and Anna have called Vaughan home for more than 30 years. They have been active and valuable contributors to the operation of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, with Anna serving as secretary of the Parish Council and Ronald serving on the Parish Finance Council for more than 10 years.

Ronald has been an advocate for the Woodbridge community and fair intensification within the area. He led the establishment of a new resident association in the South Kipling area of Woodbridge and has co-ordinated several social events that bring the community together. Ronald has also been a Grand Knight for the St. Peter’s Parish Knights of Columbus and Head Coach for the Woodbridge Strikers teams.

Anna has also been very involved in the Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club, serving as Head Coach for various girls' teams. In addition, Anna managed one of Woodbridge's pioneering girls' competitive soccer teams for 10 years.

Anna has served as an executive member of local school councils in various positions and has organized guest speakers and many fundraising events to support the needs of Vaughan schools and charitable organizations. One of these charitable organizations is the Dominican Republic Relief Fund, which provides Haitian refugees living in the Dominican Republic with education, nutrition and healthcare programs. Members of the St. Peter’s Parish community take part in an annual mission trip, for which Ronald was fundamental in laying the groundwork. Ronald and Anna greatly contributed toward each trip by overseeing fundraisers, including St. Peter’s Passion Play, a yearly theatrical performance of The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ronald and Anna have also contributed their time and efforts to the Holy Cross Catholic Academy’s Drama department and have been honoured with an annual award named after them since 2007.
