Many requests can be made from home at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan

Effective today – Monday, May 2 – Vaughan City Hall and the Vaughan Animal Shelter are reopening to the public – the latest step in the City’s disciplined, responsible and measured approach to close and gradually reopen City facilities and amenities in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

As a reminder, the City has expanded and enhanced its online offerings throughout the past two years. Save yourself some time and the drive to City Hall – many services are available online! Visitors to vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan can apply for a job; register and pay for recreation programs; report missed waste collection; buy bins and tags online; report road maintenance, including potholes; pay parking tickets; apply for building/engineering permits; report litter/graffiti; request tree pruning and shrub maintenance; request park or splashpad maintenance and so much more. Vaughan property owners can pay taxes online through their financial institutions or in-person, through the bank machine or via telephone.

In-person services

For those visiting City Hall, in-person services are being enhanced, which includes a more streamlined approach in the atrium of City Hall. Visitors to City Hall will be greeted at the Welcome Desk located on the main floor and directed to the appropriate location.

All City facilities are cashless. However, payments in cash (exact amounts encouraged) will be accepted at City Hall as part of the candidate nomination process, which runs from until Friday, Aug. 19, for the 2022 municipal election.

Marriage ceremonies at City Hall will also resume – visit vaughan.ca/clerks for more information.

If you go to Vaughan City Hall, be mindful and exercise caution around construction in the atrium lobby and the west parking lot. There will be a temporary reduction of parking spaces and there may be added noise as work is underway. Visit vaughan.ca/DisruptionsandClosures for details.

Please note: the Public Works counter at the Joint Operations Centre will remain closed as all Public Works-related services are now provided online.

Committee and Council meetings

Committee and Council meetings will transition to a hybrid approach with both in-person and virtual options starting Tuesday, May 3. Members of Council and the public will have the option to attend in-person or remotely. Public consultation remains a vital part of the planning and city-building process. There are many ways citizens can participate in meetings and have their say, including:

  • attending a meeting in-person at Vaughan City Hall to speak to Members of Council regarding an item on the agenda. Pre-registration is encouraged by completing the online Request to Speak form or calling Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 by noon on the day before the meeting.
  • speaking live via teleconference to Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council during a meeting. To pre-register to speak at an electronic-participation meeting, fill out the online Request to Speak form by noon on the business day before the meeting for an item listed on the agenda. For a matter not listed on the agenda, refer to the presentation request guidelines (PDF).
  • speaking live from a telephone (regular landline or cellphone) during the meeting. To pre-register to speak via telephone, please contact the Office of the City Clerk at clerks@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.
  • submitting a written communication for review by Members of Council as part of an agenda item. All written communications can be emailed to the Office of the City Clerk at clerks@vaughan.ca.

Individuals can continue to watch these meetings live at vaughan.ca/LiveCouncil.

Safety screening

Visitors are encouraged to self-screen for symptoms prior to entering any City building. Signage on the main doors outlines COVID-19 symptoms and asks the public not to enter if they are symptomatic. Patrons should remain vigilant and stay home if they are sick. Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask indoors.

Those who feel unwell and believe they have symptoms related to COVID-19 should contact York Region Public Health at 1-800-361-5653 or Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000. For additional information and resources on the virus, visit York Region's website at york.ca/COVID19.
