#ShopVaughanLocal for back to school
Support local
businesses when getting kids ready to return to class
With the start of school just around the corner, the City of Vaughan is reminding citizens of the different ways they can support local businesses while making sure everyone has what they need to head back to class.
In
April, the City launched the #ShopVaughanLocal campaign, encouraging residents
to support the local economy by shopping at local businesses and restaurants –
and getting the kids ready to return to school is another opportunity to help. There
are many ways to make a difference:
- Shop in-store or order online from local businesses
- Buy gift cards from local businesses
- Dine at or order take-out or delivery from a local restaurant
- Share your local love on social media using #ShopVaughanLocal
York
Region is providing tips on how to protect all customers
and employees when working and shopping, and a toolkit to support businesses
as they reopen during COVID-19. The Province has also put forward the
principles of the People Outside Safely
Together Promise,
encouraging small businesses to strictly follow health guidelines and reopen
with appropriate measures in place so consumers can shop safely and with
confidence. In addition, the Province, in partnership with various health and
safety organizations, has also released sector-specific
guidelines
in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. These documents help workplaces better
understand their responsibilities and include best practices they can use to
help them comply with their legal obligation to protect the health and safety
of workers, customers and the public.
The
#ShopVaughanLocal campaign is just one of the many measures introduced by the
City to provide relief to the business community and help ease the financial
burden caused by COVID-19. The City’s Economic and Cultural Development department
is monitoring the impact of the pandemic and has many resources available on
its website: vaughanbusiness.ca.
The team
is available to help businesses access support provided by the Government of
Canada and stakeholder organizations. They also continue to offer advisory
consultations for business via tele- or video-conference as well as hosting
informative webinars.
The City
has also developed an online list of local businesses that are open during the pandemic.
This voluntary listing is available at vaughan.ca/OpenForBusiness.
