Start Your Spring Cleaning with a Vaughan 20-Minute Makeover
March 25, 2013
Vaughan’s 20-Minute Makeover returns on Friday,
April 19 and residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to take part in
the annual community cleanup. Mayor and Members of Council will participate in
this year’s event by joining students and staff from Glen Shields Public
School. Each year, one school is chosen from one of the City’s five wards to
host the cleanup event.
“I’m proud of the outstanding support from our residents, businesses and young people for Vaughan’s annual 20-Minute Makeover,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “This initiative brings our community together for a common cause, and demonstrates our long-term commitment to protecting and improving our environment. We are fortunate to have a beautiful city with socially responsible citizens who are engaged and dedicated to making a positive contribution. I want to thank them for their commitment to city building and encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s 20-Minute Makeover.”
Vaughan’s 20-Minute Makeover is an annual event in support of Earth Day activities. Beginning at 2 p.m., residents and members of the community are asked to perform a 20-minute cleanup in their neighbourhood. In 2012, approximately 10,000 participants from local schools, businesses and community organizations registered for Vaughan’s 20-Minute Makeover.
“Vaughan has always taken great pride in how the City looks by maintaining the streets, boulevards and public spaces across the City,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “This event gives us all an opportunity to join together and give our City’s public spaces a ‘spring cleaning.’ At the end of the day, we will all benefit from our 20 minutes of time with a cleaner, safer city.”
The City of Vaughan will be providing garbage bags and gloves for participating groups. Those wishing to be involved in this year’s event are asked to register by Monday, April 8.
