Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has issued the following statement.

I was pleased to join Minister Steven Del Duca this morning where he announced that the Province of Ontario will be investing $55 million towards planning for the Yonge North Subway Extension. This is an investment in the future of our city as it will support job creation, economic growth and our citizens, while benefitting the environment.

Today is a pivotal step forward in the advancement of transit in Vaughan. It also marks an important milestone for our community and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area as this funding will serve to improve the quality of life and standard of living for our residents and beyond.

Planning can now begin on the development of an important missing link in the dedicated regional rapid transit system, which presently requires approximately 2,500 bus trips per day to meet the public transit demand. We are at a critical juncture in the evolution of our city and as we continue our fast-paced growth and public transit is a key component of getting people where they need to go.

We will continue to work with our government partners to advance our common agenda and address key challenges that we all experience. Together, we will strive to provide solutions to the traffic congestion and commute times that impact our residents.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Minister Steven Del Duca and government partners celebrate the important investment.
